China Unicom visits Darwin at Harwell

On Thursday 22 February, we were pleased to welcome China Unicom to the Darwin SatCom Lab at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. Over the course of its three-decade history, China Unicom has become one of the largest mobile providers in China, and indeed one of the largest worldwide.

Our visitors included senior China Unicom executives He Biao, Zhiqiang Jia, Vincent Zhu and Chen Shuxiong. Accompanied by their respective teams, they spent the afternoon with our technical experts, who demonstrated Darwin’s work with connectivity and autonomous vehicles.

To celebrate the year of the dragon, we received a beautiful gift from our guests: a panda in a dragon suit, representing strength and stability.

‘We’re honoured to be considered for a potential partnership in the Chinese market by one of the largest mobile providers in the world,’ said Daniela Petrovic, co-founder of Darwin. ‘We had an exciting afternoon of exchanging ideas, and it was a great pleasure to present our work with communications, autonomous vehicles and insurance modelling.’

We enjoyed the opportunity to improve our understanding of overseas markets, and we’re looking forward to returning the visit with a trip to Beijing!
