Darwin Canada team visits Harwell to work on self-driving vehicles

In March 2026, Darwin’s Canadian team took a trip to Darwin’s UK headquarters at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus. During this two-week visit, Darwin’s UK and Canadian branches were able to pool their knowledge and collaborate on connected and autonomous vehicle (CAV) projects.

Darwin’s Canadian office, situated at the Life Sciences Innovation Hub in Calgary, originally opened in late 2025. Together with the University of Calgary, Darwin is building new autonomous vehicle models that will respond better to the environment in adverse weather conditions. Weather is an important consideration for self-driving vehicles, as sensors may perform differently in conditions such as rain, snow and fog.

At Harwell Campus, Darwin’s Canadian team partnered with their UK counterparts to test the CAV models they’ve been developing over the last six months. It was a productive and valuable meeting, and both teams will be bringing the things they’ve learnt into their future work.

We’re working to present a demo at Harwell Campus and in Calgary in the autumn of 2026, so keep an eye out for further news!
